Frequently asked questions

All the details in one place.

Got a question about classes, memberships, or what to bring? You’ll probably find the answer here. We’ve gathered the most common questions our community asks so you can feel confident and prepared before you arrive.

If you can't find what you're looking for, please get in touch! We're always happy to help.

  • You are most welcome to come along to any class that fits your own schedule, as we teach classes with plenty of variety and options for all levels. And don't worry, you're never the only beginner in the room! However, if your schedule is fairly open, then these three class styles are perfect places to get started:

    • Fundamentals: we keep it simple, focus on the basics, break things down with detail.

    • Yin: slow and easeful, wonderful for letting go of tension, open to anyone and everyone.

    • Harmony: a blend between a gentle flow with some Yin yoga shapes, the perfect intro to the two major styles of yoga on offer.

  • Just yourself! We have mats and all the props you’ll need freely available, but you’re most welcome to bring your own. Wear something comfy that allows you to move freely.

  • Yes please, it guarantees your spot and helps us keep the space comfortable for everyone. You can book through our timetable page or via the Momence app. If you ever have any issues with booking online, you are most welcome to turn up to the studio and we can try fit you in, but please be aware that some classes can be fully booked and priority is given to those who have booked.

  • If a class is full, do add yourself to the waitlist. If a spot opens, you’ll get an email and/or text to let you know.

Similarly, if you can no longer attend a class, please cancel your booking so that in the event that there is another student on the waitlist, they will receive the notice that a spot has been freed up.

  • For regular classes, the late-cancellation window is 3 hours prior to class starting. This is to allow enough time for the spot to be refilled, and for potential waitlisted students to receive the notification and plan accordingly. If you cancel prior to the 3 hour window, you'll receive your class pass back as a credit.

For workshops and events, the late-cancellation window is 48 hours.

We do not have a late-cancellation fee and trust in the fairness and goodwill of the Estuary community. Please be mindful of others and act accordingly.

  • Yoga is about meeting yourself where you are, not touching your toes on day one. Flexibility isn’t the goal, but it’s something that can improve with practice and each yoga class is an opportunity to do so.

Don't let any tension or stiffness stop you! Saying to yourself "I'm too inflexible to do yoga" is the same as saying "I'm too dirty to have a shower." Let yoga help you!

  • The studio generally opens up about 15-20mins before a class starts, so anytime in that window. If it's your first time to Estuary, it's best to arrive at least 10 minutes early so that our team can show you around the studio, answer any questions you may have, and for you to have time to settle body and mind before practice.

  • We aren't a hot yoga studio, but we do have infrared heating panels that keep the room around 23C in the cooler months of the year. On hot Melbourne days, we cool the room for comfort's sake.

  • Yoga can be a wonderful way to stay active, release tension, and support your wellbeing during pregnancy. It is an incredibly personal journey though, so definitely consult your health professional first and take it at your own pace. As a general guide, we recommend avoiding strong twists, deep backbends, and lying flat on your belly, but there are plenty of poses and variations that will feel great and keep you safe, in flow or Yin classes.

Let your teacher know before class so they can offer prenatal-friendly options and keep an eye on you throughout the practice. If you’d like something more tailored, we can also arrange private or small-group sessions with sequences designed specifically for pregnancy.

  • It wholly depends on you and the injury. Yoga can be a wonderful practice for prehab and rehab in relation to all sorts of injuries, but for anything acute and immediate you are best served by seeking an opinion from a health professional. We are specifically trained in understanding the body with respect to yoga, but please understand that it is important that we stay in our lane.

Do let your teacher know what you're working with before class so that we can provide yoga-related advice and modifications where necessary.

  • Yes, yoga can be a great way for teenagers to build body awareness, mindfulness and focus. We welcome teens aged 14 and over who can participate for the full class without disruption. They’ll need their own booking or membership, and we ask that a parent or guardian attends with them for their first few visits. Once they’re confident and familiar with the space, they’re welcome to attend on their own.

If your teen is younger than 14 but keen to try yoga, get in touch. We may be able to arrange a private or small-group session to introduce them to the practice in a supportive way.

  • All parking in the surrounding streets are free, ranging from 2 hour to 4 hour parks. The best spaces are right outside the studio on Queensberry Street, but Munster Terrace also provides plenty of spaces.

  • There are a few street poles right outside the studio on Queensberry. If they are already used, the brand new Arden Train Station is right around the corner, 50m up Lauren Street. There are dozens of bike rings right outside for safe, well-lit bike parking.

  • There sure is. The nearest tram stop is about 150m from the studio, the 57 line, corner of Queensberry and Abbotsford streets. Estuary is sandwiched between the West Melbourne train station and the brand new Arden Station (opening soon) for easy access to the city, or to Kensington and Flemington.

  • Certainly, for individuals, pairs, or small groups. They’re a great way to work on specific goals or build confidence before joining group classes. Please visit our Private Classes page for more info, or get in touch.

  • Yes, we can run yoga sessions for teams both in our studio or at your workplace. Classes can be energising, restorative, or a balanced mix of both, and we tailor the pace, style, and focus to suit your team’s needs. You can learn more and get in touch via our Corporate Classes page, and we’ll design a program that works for your schedule and space.

  • Yes we do. Our gift cards are digital, easy to buy, and can be sent directly to the recipient’s inbox at a time and date of your choosing. You can specify any amount, add a personalised message, and they can use it for any class, course, workshop, or membership at Estuary Yoga Space.
